The main aim of this project was not only to establish a connection for pedestrians to cross between the north and south sides of the rail tracks but also to rejuvenate the public space that lies between. Through removal of land mass and innovative use of ground manipulation, a protective cove was created in the north-east part of the site, effectively creating a public park; an important space that helps forge community and encourages health and fitness.
The surrounding buildings follow the naturally uneven topography of the location and these contrast aesthetically with the railway line itself.
The surrounding buildings follow the naturally uneven topography of the location and these contrast aesthetically with the railway line itself. Τhe discontinuity in topography that occurs from the introduction of a void in the landscape, coupled with the horizontality of the rail tracks and a high degree of accessibility, produces an unprecedented spatial configuration and a brand new landmark for the neighbourhood.
